Sabbath 101
/A practice
We’re embracing our beginners’ minds around the age-old idea of Sabbath as we kick-off Cease and Resist. In the spirit of learning and practice - here’s your assignment (invitation?!) this week:
Set a daily “set-it-down” alarm to interrupt the normal flow of your day. Stop whatever you are doing; set it down for 1, 2, maybe even 5 minutes. You will be picking it back up. It’s ok.
Let this simple act interrupt your business as usual. Lift your eyes up and look around. Notice your breathing. Notice what’s going on inside too. How willing were you to be stopped? Don’t judge. Just notice. How is it to pause?
How’d it go?
We all will spend a lifetime remembering, practicing and discovering what nourishing, fruitful rest looks like in our lives. It will be different for each of us. And what works for you today may not feel so nourishing or fruitful tomorrow. Practicing something is what matters!
It can really help to hear what others are trying and discovering. So we are gathering up our community wisdom (yes - yours too!) this series to be edited together and released on June 23.
This week’s prompts:
When I hear the word “sabbath” I think, or I feel ____________
What was your version of the set-it-down alarm? How did it feel to try it? What was it like?
Record a 1-minute voice memo on your phone and share your responses and experience. Thanks!
