The Gospel According to Greg - That sounds a bit heretical, and probably is. But face it, Greg has a perspective he’s used for the past 17 years (his pitching mound). Its purpose hasn’t been to make us agree with him but to get us thinking… together… about the stuff that matters. These three weeks will be a chance to lay out what is at the heart of it, not to make his mound last forever but to help us understand where he has been coming from and to help us distinguish what Fabric is about from how Greg has done it. January 7: The Pitcher at the Plate: Q&R with Greg - In case you don’t know, Q&R is “Question & Response.” One big piece of Greg’s pitching mound is his suspicion of answers. Responses however, well, Greg nearly always has something to say about anything. So this is your chance. Rather than be pitching to you, he’ll set up the conversation and then let you pitch as he takes some swings at it, filling you in on his why’s, what’s, and how’s. January 14: God doesn’t play games - Think about it, unless God is really bored or insecure enough to need to keep us guessing, why would God play games? And really, do you think God is the sort of thing that makes up rules for us to follow, or that there is an intrinsic unity to all things that God and we are part of? A main reason Greg started Fabric was to escape the games, rules, expectations that have crept into ‘church’ separating us from what it’s about rather than connecting us. January 21: Nothing is Written in Stone (and a mutual send off celebration) - That stone with those ironic words carved into it has sat at the front of our gatherings for 17 years for a reason. For Greg’s last week he has a message that this stone stands for. “Being church” isn’t about having all the right beliefs or behaviors, it’s about this message that helps us be authentic to ourselves, each other, this world and the 3rd Strand, and it allows us to experience God, the 3rd Strand, in a way that is authentic and relevant.
