Stuff that Works
/As you grow up you find gadgets, perspectives, ideas that get things done or make life work. As a community we’ve spent 17 years gleaning the 1000’s of years of human history spent finding stuff that works. Not just quick fixes or life hacks, but “aha!”s that tie the bits of life together. They aren’t guaranteed to make life better, but they are the path to growth. Join us for these five weeks to do some learning, unlearning, trying on, and pondering five things that we think will work for you!
September 10 - Knots: Even if you weren’t a scout, knots come in handy. They hold things together and can give you something to hold on to. The 3 Strands of Self, Others, and God that we weave need to be held together and held on to as well. And without a knot experience once in a while, it’s easy to lose your grip or let the whole thing unravel. Life is full of great and oftentimes hard knot experiences that are signs of growth. Let’s talk about noting, marking, and sharing them. LIVESTREAM | PODCAST | SUNDAY PAPER | GROUP GUIDE
September 17 (Fabric’s Golden Birthday) - Bus: Buses are great mass transportation, but this isn’t about those buses, it’s about YOUR bus. Who is on it? Are you driving through life alone, or with random passengers you’ve picked up along the way? Got people on your bus you wish would get off but won’t leave? What if…for some of those special trips, at least, like when you are facing big decisions or need help…you had just the right mix of people on board? That would be something that really works! September 24 - Pipes: To put it simply, you are meant to be a pipe, not a bucket. That means you are a vessel through which the stuff of life flows, not in which stuff accumulates. While you may agree with that, clearly it isn’t our human instinct. We like to have, possess, collect, hold on to. Letting go is one of the hardest things we do, yet it is how life grows - within and beyond us. Since it is so important and so hard, it is important for us to consider and practice this thing that works. LIVESTREAM | PODCAST | SUNDAY PAPER | GROUP GUIDE
October 1 - Marathon Sunday: The TC Marathon was been cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions for running. First, so sorry for you runners who have worked so hard and long for this day! Second, we weren’t able to cheer on the runners as planned. Check out this throwback Fabric podcast and Group Guide instead.
October 8 - Mirrors: It would be surprising if you didn’t look in the mirror pretty often. It would also be surprising if you didn’t look at others pretty often. The question is, “Do you look at others the same way as you look at yourself?” Probably not. We work with an uneven playing field that gives us a distorted view of ourselves and others, and that’s a problem. To be the person you can be for a world that needs you, you need to see yourself and others for who they really are. Let’s talk. LIVESTREAM | PODCAST | SUNDAY PAPER | GROUP GUIDE
October 15 - Boxes: Godboxes, that is. BTW, did you know you have one? Everyone does. Whether you believe in God, don’t, or aren’t sure, you have a container you keep God in. Its walls are made of words, images, experiences, assumptions, and convictions. Some you are aware of, others you aren’t. Regardless, one thing certain is that yours is too small. It’s time to take a good look at our Godboxes and start knocking down some walls and trying new boxes on for size. It’s how we make room for the 3rd Strand in our lives.
