North Star Wk 6 - I Matter

Group Guide

Ahead-of-time heads up: For the warmup & one of the dig-in ideas - invite everyone to bring any meaningful object for show & tell. (Shout out Wren’s Monday night Group for the idea!)

keeping a shared why and practices in front of you can be as simple as literally putting them on the table! Pick one of these up on Sundays at the info table.

WELCOME!

Our shared stories often offer the most impactful moments of learning. This week we heard stories about getting back on track; about our compasses and maps; about our North Stars! Though none of your stories are exactly like Jessi and Tim, what threads did you relate to?

Warm Up, Dig In & Closing ideas below.

WARM UP (10-15 mins)

  1. Take turns sharing names + show & tell with your object!

DIG IN IDEAS

Have you ever had a time when you needed to check in with your own North Star(s)?
  1. Let’s play “Have You Ever.” Raise your hand if…

You’ve ever worked or volunteered in a library.

    You’ve lost a job unexpectedly.

    You play an instrument.

    You’ve tuned a bass guitar.

You or someone you know has had long Covid.

You’ve had a doctor believe you.

You’ve had a doctor not believe you.

You’ve embraced control as a core value.

You’ve found gratitude within a crappy situation.

You’ve embraced control as a core value.

  2. How did you relate to what Tim and Jessi shared?

  3. Jessi and Tim were both faced with situations they didn’t choose and had to navigate. Think of times you’ve leaned on your own North Star(s) for dealing with the unexpected or a big decision. Connect in groups of 2s or 3s to give everyone a chance to be listened to.

    • What was it like? Which feelings did you experience? (See ideas on the Sunday Paper.)

    • What was it like before, during and after that experience?

  4. How can your object help you practice hope? Jessi mentioned hope as one of her North Stars, and that it nudges her to keep trying and learning new things about herself and life. Tim talked about tuning into his own integrity to guide his decisions. Using your creative muscles can be a fun and revealing way to practice hope and align with your own integrity. Try it! Follow this link where you’ll find a simple form to make a poem about your object. Prepare to be surprised. Share your pantoum poems if you are willing!

CLOSE

  1. Read the ROAM (read, observe, apply, meditate) notes in the Sunday Paper in light of all you’ve talked about.

  2. Share one thing you will take away from this time that you want to remember this week.

  3. Confirm your plan for next time.  When, where, who will coordinate, facilitate, provide hospitality or other needs?

Remember, anyone is welcome to serve the group in these and other ways. In fact, it is a way you will grow and connect! Here’s a printable Fall Fabric Calendar you can use to plan.
