Welcome to this conversation
Living Room - Episode 3: Soul Space. Both words have much to say. ‘Soul’ is the immutable, true you; often buried in layers of distractions, shame, worry, games. And ‘Space’ is what you look up into at night; unlimited, unending, largely unknown and unexplored. What if what God is up to is “soul space”-- living room for that inextinguishable light within each of us? This week before Easter can be a sobering time rich for reflection and discovery. Let’s do that together.
Episode 3: Soul Space
When you are who you are, then you are in your Living Room.
Something to do: Describe your living room - the space you have to live, to breathe and be your full self.
You do not belong to your smart phone, you are not your career or your schedule! They belong to you and are expressions of how you bring yourself into the world.
You and your living room matter.
Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem [City of PEACE]…His disciples brought the colt to him; and after throwing their cloaks on it, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!" Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, order your disciples to stop." He answered, "I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out." -Luke 19.28-40
Something to consider: What sneaks or elbows its way in to take up your Living Room?
God is more committed to your Living Room that even you are. God will not give up on it.
Remember from Exodus 3:
If God is “I am who I am” then the question to you is “are you who you are”?
As Jesus came near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying,
"If you, even you, had only recognized on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.” Luke 19.41-42
God isn’t disappointed in you for not being who you are, god is heartbroken.
Living Room Sunday’s message to you and to everyone: Who you are is not a mistake.
There is more mystery than mistake in you!
Something to consider: Who are you when you are in your Living Room? If you aren’t sure, ask others. You may be surprised how well they know! Practice trusting and being that person, after all, it’s who you are. Write about it, Talk about it.
